the endings are the same

This past week I have been starting my day with reading one or two pieces from a short story anthology “The Story and Its Writer”, compiled by Ann Charters.

“You’ll have to face it, the endings are the same however you slice it. Don’t be deluded by any other endings, they’re all fake, either deliberately fake, with malicious intent to deceive, or just motivated by excessive optimism, if not by downright sentimentality.

The only authentic ending is the one provided here:

John and Mary die. John and Mary die. John and Mary die.”

One can hardly accuse me of malicious intent to deceive, OR being downright sentimental, but I may be excessively optimistic at times. I was grateful to the writer for the reminder. 🙂

The author? Margaret Atwood.

Really dark, and kind of funny.
Or maybe, kind of dark, and really funny.

We have that in common.

Good morning!
