8 Random Moments – Spectating World’s Toughest Mudder 2017

Posted on January 23, 2018

2017 was the last year that WTM was held at Las Vegas. The Kong Infinity had the greatest promise for being THE obstacle of the year, and, of course, we saw it resurface as Tough Mudder announced their 2018 obstacle line-up. There is always that one obstacle that truly stands out. Remember the first time

A TRUE Obstacle Race – The Purist’s Perspective

Posted on January 12, 2018

Sasuke, the Japanese precursor to American Ninja Warrior, first aired in 1997 – way before Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder were around. The list of obstacles reads familiar – Tarzan Swing, Cliffhanger, Warped Wall and Net Climb. Competitors came from all walks of life – from gym and parkour instructors, and trampolinists to plumbers, and

I'd also argue that while the Tyrolean Traverse is an obstacle, when found on a course it should be in a format that requires you to cross something - like a ravine, or a gully, or body of water; a Tyrolean Traverse over dry ground (as per Spartan of late) isn't really an obstacle...again, Dead End Race has typically situated their Traverse over a fairly wide pond...

April Fools’ – Tough Mudder Vs. Spartan Race Face-Off

Posted on April 6, 2015

Ah, April Fools’. The day of false engagement and pregnancy announcements, declarations of life overhauls and long-term travel (that is just wishful thinking in disguise) and other cliche humour. The companies are almost expected to produce something brilliant and hilarious on that day (although Google is perhaps the only one who seems to be able

OCR And Things To Be Grateful For

Posted on October 13, 2014

In lieu of Canadian Thanksgiving, I decided to (briefly!) set aside my usual sarcastic and jaded tone that you came to know and love, and do a 180. Watch out, this may get mushy! This year I am grateful. Dear Warrior Dash, thank you for being my first obstacle race. Thank you for great memories

you gonna do WHAT? 2 sleeps until I run Tough Mudder blindfolded

Posted on August 14, 2014

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO RUN TOUGH MUDDER BLINDFOLDED? That’s pretty much the first question I get. Here’s how this all started… A few years ago I started coming up with one word at the beginning of the year, that would reflect my mission for that year. Some of my past words were

Operation Light Within (and why I will be running Tough Mudder blindfolded)

Posted on February 27, 2014

“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” ― William Shakespeare On the heels of the unveiling of my bucket list, I am pleased to (finally!) announce an initiative I am launching in 2014. OPERATION LIGHT WITHIN. Mission “raise at least $1,000 for charity” has now been

[…] Put me in a crowd of 1,000 people, and, of course, I will find a way to be the centre of attention. Even if for a few moments. What you see above is my story – some of you may remember Operation Light Within. […]

WTM 2013 game changer

Posted on May 23, 2013

If you have completed a Tough Mudder in the past little while, chances are you have received the following email: “Mudders, If 10-12 miles of Tough Mudder grit is somehow not enough for you, you’re going to want to read this email closely. World’s Toughest Mudder 2013 – a grueling 24-hour challenge designed to find

Tim, thank you for weighing in. Although I think you may have misunderstood. I am very much the part of the "us" you are referring to. However, the point stands, and while last year the 1,200 who were at the start of WTM were some of the fastest Mudders, this year it WILL boil down to whoever will register first (and yes, that includes a credit card). Some of those individuals (such as yourself) are incredible athletes who have worked very hard to be there. However, I don't think they will necessarily be the majority. Now, that's actually good news in some ways for those hardworking athletes, as the competition may be less stiff. :) Oh, and kudos for making it all the way from Australia!!!!!!

how to do a Tough Mudder without training

Posted on April 23, 2013

There are many great resources out there on how to train for Tough Mudder. Unfortunately, the sad truth of the situation is that a lot of people show up at the start line with no training. This article is for them. Bonus points for finding me in the above photo… Meet the TYPICAL CANDIDATES: Mike
