OCRWC 2017 – Short Course, and Long Course – Maps, Distance, Elevation

Posted on October 17, 2017

As the dust (read: mud) settles after OCRWC 2017 weekend – a grand finale of obstacle racing season for many, we are speculating wildly, complaining loudly, counting the bruises, and reminiscing in every other way we can think of. Here’s an up close and personal on the short course and long course from the weekend

OCRWC2017 Post-Mortem And Critical Commentary

Posted on October 17, 2017

COURSE & OBSTACLE DESIGN The course design felt very BattleFrog, and if I didn’t know better, I’d think that the Beard was responsible. While getting across this many grip obstacles in succession, AND keeping one’s band felt very rewarding, I did not see this kind of grip focus as necessary. I also have never seen

Yeah, I can see that. Consistency is not exactly where OCR shines. :))))

The Mindfuck That Is Dragon’s Back – An Open Letter To Those Who Failed, and Those Who Almost Did [Guest Post]

Posted on November 7, 2016

For those of you have faced Dragon’s Back – be it at OCRWC, or the Toughest, you know this is not just another obstacle. I found myself manning this obstacle on a Saturday this year before my own wave in the afternoon, and I was perplexed to see racer after racer climb up onto the

[…] and grab a pole. If you really want to understand, I recommend an article I found called, “Dragon’s Back Open Letter” (Content note: swearing, discussions of mental health issues). I do not kid you when I say I […]

OCRWC Changes The Qualifications For 2017

Posted on November 1, 2016

I have started obstacle racing in 2011. Or 2010? I forget. It was a freaking long time ago. Even longer in OCR years, which are kinda like dog years – one to seven or so. And I cannot recall this much excitement surrounding a race location/date announcement. Nope, not even when the Spartan Race first

Dear OCRWC Organizers… My Letter Of Disappointment And Outrage

Posted on October 28, 2016

Dear OCRWC Organizers, On behalf of entire obstacle racing community, I would like to express my disappointment and (yes!) outrage at the fact that you STILL have not announced the location of OCRWC 2017, and have not provided us with the detailed list of obstacles to be included, as well as course maps. I am baffled

OCRWC 2016 – Short Course, Long Course and Team Course – Maps, Distance, Elevation

Posted on October 17, 2016

It is Monday, and the race drop is real. Chances are, you are wearing your wristband to work (unless the short rig ate it, of course), and are sleeping with your medals. To kick off the reminiscing, please find the course layouts, distances and elevations for the three race courses below. Short Course (Friday) View full GPS

OCRWC 2016 Short Course – Race Review, And The ONE Obstacle You Probably Hated

Posted on October 14, 2016

I think this is the shortest obstacle race I have ever run. I fucking loved it. Ladies and gentlemen, all the ultra running aside, I may be a sprinter after all. The OCRWC 2016 Short Course was short (ha!), fast and furious. Very little elevation (see elevation profile below), and obstacle heavy. Be still, my

OCR, Drugs, And Rock’N’Roll

Posted on December 22, 2015

My recent blog post about Lance Armstrong and whether or not he is welcome in obstacle racing has been generating a lot of discussion. In addition to the public commentary happening on the interwebz, I have received many private messages from athletes and race directors, expressing their opinion. The race directors, especially, were sharply divided

OCR World Championships 2015 Post-Mortem And Critical Commentary

Posted on November 13, 2015

By now you have seen a hundred Facebook status updates about how OCRWC 2015 was someone’s “favorite obstacle race EVAR”, life-changing, mind-blowing, etc. etc. etc. While unconditional accolades are nice to hear, they are kinda useless. Let’s dig in. My overall reaction to the event can be summarized in one sentence: “Wow. These guys have balls”.

[…] I understand this correctly, Lance would then NOT be able to compete at events like OCRWC and the Toughest – the only two events in the sport right now that adhere to WADA protocols […]

OCR World Championships Will Be In Canada in 2016, Eh!

Posted on November 4, 2015

Instead of aiming for some sort of content balance on my blog, I am just going to continue to talk incessantly about one race, until I run out of things to say, before moving onto the next one that holds my attention. And I have to say, with the recent announcement that the OCRWC 2016

[…] of course, means that my announcement from last year very much applies! Don’t forget – Tim Hortons, Scandinave Spa, passport, smiling and […]
