READING ROUNDUP: BF’s dream couple, Mudstacle Awards and Endurance Society’s swanky new website
It was all about Christmas yesterday. Or about Santas, to be exact. My dad and I took on the annual Santa 5k – where you run in a Santa suit or not at all!
He made me work, as we finished under 27 minutes. All hot and sweaty from the pants, the jacket, the hat and the beard. The beard!
And now the news…
It actually took me a while to figure out what the heck that headline meant, and then I realized that it is referring to Ryan Atkins and Lindsay Webster, who are quickly becoming the sports’ darlings. Because our sport has grown enough to have darlings. 🙂
I propose we come up with a Hollywood-esque name for Ryan and Lindsay. RyLin?
In all seriousness, I am stoked to have two fellow Canadians take the sport by the storm. Congrats, you two!
Now, the one thing that caught my eye in the press release is one of BF’s new obstacles – the Pur0Roast “Iced Coffee Plunge”. Pur-Roast is one of BattleFrog’s sponsors, and, apparently, the racers “not only emerged refreshed, but smelling of the finest low acidity coffee in the world“.
Umm… can you say blasphemy? It’s COFFEE. OMG.
UK’s Annual Mudstacle Awards 2015 // Mudstacle
Congratulations to Adrian Bijanada and the crew for taking home the Best International Event award at the UK’s annual Mudstacle Awards. Well deserved!
Spartan Race took the award for Best Swag.
It promises to make your business… you guessed it! #Unstoppable!
According to the website, “in the one-day live course, you will learn the techniques needed to dominate Spartan Race obstacles. And you will uncover and learn how to overcome the often subtle weaknesses that cause big-time limitations on the race course“.
To be honest, Spartan Obstacle Specialist sounds a little bit like Domestic Engineer, which, according to the Urban Dictionary, is another term for a housewife or stay at home mom. I do not see too many established coaches pursuing this, however, I think this would be attractive for new personal trainers, or perhaps, gym owners, who are trying to tap into the obstacle racing market.
Endurance Society Launches New Site // The Endurance Society
This innovative race series is back for 2016 with a spiffy new site and events like Extremus (a winter group trek), Infinitus (a rugged trail race, ranging in distance from 8k to 888k), Frigus (a full day of snowshoe, ski and sled run races) and Sine Nomine (operated sub rosa, where the organizers, staff, and all attendees, past and future, are sworn to complete secrecy). You can become a member NOW.
Best OCR Blogger Nomination // MudRunGuide
Tis’ the season for gift guides, top 10 lists, and end of year nominations!
I found out last week that I have been nominated for the Best OCR Blogger in 2015 by the MudRunGuide. This is a category for the blogger who “provided the best coverage & insights throughout the year”.
I am flattered and honored to have been nominated. [Perhaps, it was YOU who nominated me? In that case… THANK YOU!].
I’d love if you took a moment to vote. Consider this your Christmas present to me. 🙂 The best part is that MudRunGuide will be donating to a non-profit organization for every vote. It’s the ultimate win-win.
*Note: You DO NOT have to vote for every single category – you can scroll down and JUST vote for the best OCR blogger. 😉
So, please take a moment, and vote. The voting is open until December 23rd. Your support means the world to me.
Spartan Race Canada East Ties The Knot
As you can probably tell from the green background, this announcement is few months late, but I could not not share one of the lovely photos of Selica Sevigny, the director of Spartan Race Canada East and (her now husband) Richard, tying the knot!
Whatcha doing at 12pm EST today, Monday, December 28th?
I will be discussing the latest Reading Roundup blog post on Periscope – join me @k_solovieva.
Did you miss last week’s Periscope? You can still watch it!
